I think that syme was vanished because he new to much and he was was all about newspeak they probably thought that he was going to try to take over the party.
the proles were in a frenzy of patriotism. It was hate week and so everybody and everything seemed to be out of control.
Syme is the one who vanishes just like Winston perdicted. And the blank is Patriotism. I think that it means to be completely loyal and to love what you belive and always follow it.
